Haitises means "Mountain Lands " in the Taino language. Los Haitises National Park is the largest natural park in the country and extends over a territory of 830 KM ². It counts about 58 calcareous islets called “Mogotes " and more than 135 caves in which the last Tainos took refuge. This grandiose marine park seems to be a unique vegetable maze with deep fjords upholstered with mangroves, which hosts an impressive ornithological fauna estimated around 100 species. This exceptional painting reveals a page of Hispaniola’s history in a classified natural site and under the protection of the Ministry of the Environment since 1968. Difficult to avoid using organizing excursions to visit the park, the number of visitors on the site is limited and regulated to ensure the environmental preservation of the park.
